Like mother, like daughter for Boxer aide

Posted by Nate Hoffman on May 11, 2016

One of the newest aides to outgoing Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) has grown up around politics her entire life.

Kathryn Irwin, whose mom is California State Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin (D-44), just joined Boxer's Capitol Hill office as a staff assistant this month. The daughter came over from law and lobbying firm Polsinelli PC but got her start on her mother's campaigns. She volunteered to work for her mother's successful campaign for Thousand Oaks City Council in 2004. In addition, she was the director of outreach for the elder Irwin's state assembly campaign two years ago, which was a victory over conservative pastor Rob McCoy.

Kathryn Irwin also previously interned for Rep. Julia Brownley (D-Calif.) in 2013 and has earned a BA in political science and government from Princeton University.
