Ex-press secretary energized by new job at Chevron

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on June 28, 2016

Smyth Anderson's years on the Hill were hardly a waste of energy. This month, the former press secretary headed to Chevron to work as the oil and gas company's policy, government and public affairs specialist.

Anderson got her start in Sen. Richard Burr's (R-N.C.) office before moving to the House, where she worked for Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) from 2011 until 2013. Anderson served as Ryan's legislative assistant during the heat of Ryan's vice presidential campaign with Mitt Romney, and after, served as the congressman's press secretary.

After leaving the Hill in 2013, the Durham, N.C. native took a position as a congressional liaison for the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.

Anderson is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied political science and French. She is currently pursuing an MS in foreign service from Georgetown University.
