Former Rep. Todd Tiahrt finally registers as a lobbyist

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on July 5, 2016

Former Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.) has long denied allegations that he's worked as a lobbyist since leaving office in 2011. This weekend, the questions were resolved when his registration as a federal lobbyist - effective last month - was released.

Last year, Tiahrt told the Tokepa Capital-Journal, "I've never lobbied. I didn't take a lobbying job. I work for a firm that does lobbying. I don't personally do it. It doesn't bother me that people do it. We have a constitutional right to petition our government guaranteed by the First Amendment."

Now, his firm, Tiahrt Enterprises, is lobbying on behalf of the National Association for the Employment of People Who Are Blind for "regulatory inclusion of metrics for contracts with companies who employ persons who are blind."

Tiarht founded Tiarht Enterprises following an unsuccessful Senate bid in 2010. He also worked as senior vice president of lobbying firm O'Neill and Associates from 2015 until earlier this year.

Tiarht served as a member of Congress from 1995 until 2011.
