Pepper-spray projectile brand aiming for D.C. influence

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on Aug. 12, 2016

Pepper-spray projectile line PepperBall now has lobbyists in Washington.

United Tactical Systems, an Illinois-based manufacturer of "less-lethal" PepperBall weapons, has filed its first lobbying registration, to promote PepperBall's use among law-enforcement officers.

Lobbying firm Nelson Mullins Riley and Scarborough is advocating for the company.

PepperBall products include balls that release capsaicin — a chemical found in chili peppers — on impact, as well as a line of projectile launchers.

According to the company’s website, the product has "been proven safe and effective by more than 5,000 agencies," including U.S. Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
