Orthopedic group muscles up with Benishek hire

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on Jan. 11, 2017

The American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons has snagged a new government affairs manager from the office of former Rep. Dan Benishek (R-Mich.), with whom the organization has had close relations.

The National Institute on Money in State Politics lists the AAOS as one of Benishek's top campaign donors. Shortly before a 2014 meeting between the congressman and participants in an AAOS conference, the group endorsed a Benishek bill that would have granted antitrust exemptions to some doctors in insurance negotiations.

Jordan Vivian came to the Hill as a legislative correspondent to former Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) in 2010 before moving to Benishek's office two years later, most recently as legislative director. He moved this month to the AAOS, which disclosed more than $1.12 million in lobbying in the first three quarters of 2016.
