Church stands united even with divisive Trump

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on Feb. 2, 2017

President Donald Trump has divided two leaders of a Los Angeles, Calif. church, with one working for the White House and the other for a Democrat in Congress.

Weller Street Missionary Baptist Church's assistant pastor Omarosa Manigault is popularly known as an "Apprentice" contestant now serving as Trump's public liaison leader.

Meanwhile, her boss, K.W. Tulloss, has taken a gig on the other side of the aisle, as a field representative for freshman Rep. Nanette Barragan (D-Calif.). Tulloss, the Los Angeles chapter president of the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network civil rights organization, has spoken out against both Trump and Ben Carson, the president’s pick to lead the Department of House and Urban Development.

But the two don’t let their political differences come in the way of their relationship. When Tulloss came to town to speak at last month’s We Shall Not Be Moved march, in part a protest of Trump, Manigault wrote on Tulloss's Facebook page, "Mom set the TiVo - so proud!!" While Tulloss was in Washington, besides meeting with his new boss Barragan, the pastors took the opportunity to commune for a bite at Ben’s Chili Bowl.

He also speaks highly of Manigault's new White House gig, calling Omarosa "someone that we can trust and count on."

"She's going to bring not only a heart but an added voice of concern [to the White House] because she's been here, she's done work with the [black] communities," he told a reporter when she was named to the job.
