A convicted felon and former lawyer to Donald Trump, the real estate mogul, is one of the newest federal lobbyists to take advantage of ties to Donald Trump, the president.
Once Westchester, N.Y.'s top development lawyer, Albert Pirro was Trump's go-to man for real-estate projects in the area. Trump's relationship with Pirro and his then-wife, Jeanine Pirro (later host of Fox News show "Justice with Judge Jeanine"), extended beyond business. The Pirros counted Ivanka and Tiffany Trump among their party guests, and, in 2006, Donald donated $20,000 to Jeanine's bid for N.Y. attorney general.
Pirro was convicted of tax fraud in 2000 after claiming $1.2 million in phony deductions and spent 18 months in federal prison. His bar license was reinstated in 2007.
Pirro, who has done state lobbying in the past, filed as a federal lobbyist this month, registering through his law firm, Pirro Group. He is representing GNYHA Management Corp., which is related to the Greater New York Hospital Association, on "federal regulations regarding reimbursement of uncompensated medical care pursuant to Medicare," according to a disclosure form.
