Trump associate lobbying on drug trafficking

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on June 19, 2017

A New York real-estate mogul and longtime friend of Donald Trump has enlisted a law firm repesenting the president to lobby the federal government on issues surrounding his son's 2011 OxyContin-overdose death.

Steve Witkoff sued the celebrity rehab center where his son died but was unable to sue the online forum where the 22-year-old purchased the narcotics, according to Forbes.

Witkoff hired Kasowitz Benson Torres last month to lobby on "illegal drug trafficking on the Internet." A disclosure form did not specify which government agencies the team would lobby.

The law firm has long represented Trump. Marc Kasowitz, one of the firm's namesakes, currently works as Trump's personal attorney in the investigation into Russia interference in the presidential election.
