Alaskan lobbying firm picks up Capitol Hill hoopster

Posted by LegiStorm on Oct. 27, 2017

If the Alaskan law and lobbying firm Birch Horton Bittner and Cherot needs to play full-court press on Capitol Hill, their latest lobbyist knows just how to do that.

Maggie Burgess, a former basketball forward who stands at a daunting 6 feet 2 inches, is Birch Horton's new legislative director. She began lobbying for the Aleut Corp., an Alaska corporation owned by thousands of Alaskan native shareholders.

Burgess, who played hoops in her hometown of Anchorage before heading east to play for the University of Pennsylvania, spent two-and-a-half years working for Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) in her campaign, personal office and the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

Birch Horton is a go-to firm for lobbying on Alaskan issues.
