Trading in the statehouse for Congress

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on May 31, 2018

Many members of Congress got their start as state senators and representatives. Of course, not all state legislators go on to become members of Congress — some just work for them.

Rep. Dina Titus (D-Nev.) is the latest member to add an ex-state legislator to her staff list. The addition of former Nev. Sen. Terry Care (D) to her Las Vegas office brings the total to at least 22 former and six current state legislators presently working for members of Congress.

Of those former legislators, 14 now work for U.S. representatives, while eight work for senators. Current state legislators are split evenly between House and Senate staffs, with three working for members of each chamber.
