Longtime Senate Intel aide heads to State Department

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on Oct. 15, 2018

After a seven-year run in the Senate, a senior intelligence expert has moved to the State Department.

Ryan Tully is now senior adviser to Andrea Thompson, undersecretary of state for arms control and international security. Thompson was confirmed as undersecretary earlier this year after a stint as deputy assistant to President Trump and national security adviser to Vice President Pence.

Tully spent the last seven years as a professional staff member to the Senate Intelligence Committee. The retired Navy Reserve intelligence officer also served as an aide to ex-Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.), taking on the role of Republican staff director to a Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee ad hoc subcommittee as well.
