Facebook adds House Democratic Caucus digital director

As the tech giant faces continued fire in D.C. over issues of transparency and user privacy, Facebook has added a House Democratic Caucus communicator to help smooth over relations with the government.

Matt Schumacher had served as digital director to the caucus under chair Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.), who lost his primary bid to incoming Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and previously worked for the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The California native joined Facebook's politics and government outreach team last week.

Facebook is on track to spend more than $15 million on federal lobbying in 2018, including more than $13 million through its in-house team.
