Former TV game show contestant now staff assistant

Posted by Nate Hoffman on Oct. 2, 2013

Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.)'s new staff assistant Rob Placek knows a lot of obscure stuff. So much so that he won $25,000 as the youngest contestant ever on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"

When it came time to the $50,000 question, though, he was confronted by his first Washington-related question. And he choked.

Placek was forced to use the double-dip "life line" when host Regis Philbin asked him which movie President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama saw on their first date. He first guessed "When Harry Met Sally" before incorrectly choosing "Driving Miss Daisy" (the answer was "Do the Right Thing").

Then again, it's hard to fault him for not knowing what which movies were out in theaters two decades prior to his 2009 TV appearance. He was only 19 at the time.
