Rep. Polis gains extra boost of energy with new comm director

Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) is gaining steam on the House Energy and Commerce Committee with the hiring of his new communications director.

Scott Overland is coming back to the Hill after serving as the director of external affairs for GenOn Energy, one of the largest independent energy producers in the United States before its acquisition last year by NRG Energy Inc. Prior to joining GenOn Energy, Overland was a government relations and strategy fellow at Bracewell and Giuliani, which lobbied on behalf of GenOn Energy in the past.

The Connecticut native previously handled press matters for former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), who sat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. Overland eventually worked his way up to deputy press secretary, the position that he held on the senator's 2006 re-election campaign.

Polis recently submitted the Renewable Electricity Standard Act of 2013 on Dec. 4. The bill has been referred to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
