Rep. Bachus' finance committee aide rejoins the private sector

Posted by Katie Barrows on Jan. 8, 2014

A finance committee aide has rejoined the private sector with a government affairs position at a British banking behemoth.

Kylie McCardle has been hired as vice president of U.S. government policy and finance for Barclays plc. The British financial institution was one of the banks at the center of the subprime mortgage crisis. Barclays recently agreed to a $36.1 million settlement for claims related to securitizations of subprime mortgage loans for more than 450 Massachusetts customers. In the past year Barclay's has lobbied both the House and Senate on issues related to the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 and the Swaps Jurisdiction Certainty Act.

McCardle comes to Barclays after serving more than two years as a professional staff member for the House Financial Services Committee under chairman emeritus Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.). Her first congressional position was with Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.) as his legislative assistant. Prior to coming to the Hill, McCardle worked for the Department of Treasury in the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and in the private sector for Jacobs Engineering Group Inc.
