Sen. Baucus' departure turns the last of his staffers into lobbyists

Posted by Katie Barrows on Feb. 26, 2014

Sen. Max Baucus' (D-Mont.) departure from Congress has pushed even more of his former staffers through the revolving door.

Will Sehestedt, an associate legislative assistant for Baucus, has just been hired as a policy manager for the Transportation Intermediaries Association. The Alexandria, Va.-based professional organization represents the third-party logistics industry, including intermediaries to shippers, carriers, government officials and international organizations.

Sehestedt has joined the large pool of Baucus alumni who have gone into government affairs work. Since LegiStorm started collecting lobbying data in 2000, Baucus has had the third-greatest number of staffers in his personal office become lobbyists. Baucus has had 47 staffers from his personal office lobbying, while those ahead of him on the list, Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) and Sen. Kay Hutchinson (R-Texas), have had 49 staffers go to K Street. Including his committee posts, Baucus has had at least 84 staffers become lobbyists.
