Awarding-winning Hill press aide goes to media-lobbying firm

Posted by Nate Hoffman on Feb. 28, 2014

Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard's (D-Calif.) communication director for the past two years has parted ways with Congress for an opportunity with a media-oriented organization.

Liz Murphy was been hired by the Sheridan Group as a senior associate. Before working for the Californian Democrat, she was the communications director for Rep. John Olver (D-Mass.). As his press expert for two years, she won the Bronze Mouse Award from the Congressional Management Foundation for her role in making her boss's website one of the best in Congress. Murphy also served as a staff assistant and a legislative correspondent for Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.) from 2008-2010.

The Washington, D.C.-based company has lobbied Congress in the past on a variety of issues, including public access to research. Last year, they advocated for the passage of H.R. 708, the Fair Access to Science and Technology Research Act of 2013, which would require federal agencies with extramural research costs of over $100 million to set up public access to their research.
