Don't say that Juan "Jasey" Cárdenas doesn't have your back. The former congressional aide is lobbying to make life a little better for those living with spinal-cord injuries and diseases.

Cárdenas had served Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Texas) since 2014 until joining the United Spinal Association as a senior policy associate earlier this year.

According to a recent lobbying disclosure form, issues Cárdenas is advocating for include Medicare rehabilitation technology, neurological-disease tracking and web access for disabled Americans.

The Weslaco, Texas native studied psychology, science and technology at the University of Pennsylvania.

A former USA Diving team alumna and longtime aide to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is now making a splash as director of policy and advocacy at Service Year Alliance.

After graduating from the University of Miami in 2010, Emily Bouck joined Rubio's Senate re-election campaign as a communications aide before moving to the Hill as his legislative correspondent. She most recently served as his deputy legislative director. 

Service Year Alliance is "committed to making a year of full-time service — a service year — a common expectation and opportunity for young Americans of all backgrounds," according to the organization's website.

The Orlando, Fla. native holds national titles in one- and ten-meter diving events and finished third in synchronized platform diving in the 2004 U.S. Olympic Diving Team Trials.

A former victims rights supporter for Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) is continuing her advocacy, this time as a lobbyist. Blair Bjellos has registered as a federal lobbyist with the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, which she joined earlier this month.

She had served as Poe's senior legislative assistant and Congressional Victims' Rights Caucus coordinator since 2011. Before that, she was staff assistant and legislative correspondent for Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) from 2008 until 2010.

According to RAINN's disclosure form, Bjellos's advocacy includes supporting Erin's Law, which requires public-school education about child sexual abuse warning signs and prevention.

The association for professional bean counters has added a former Senate aide to its team of lobbyists.

Amanda Niehenke has come to Washington to register as a lobbyist with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants after spending two years working for Sen. Jim Risch (R-Idaho) in the state. Niehenke served Risch as a constituent services representative since graduating from the University of Idaho in 2014.

The New York-based professional organization for accountants claims to represent more than 412,000 members.

In a town known for blowing smoke, an association is taking a different approach with its lobbying. The American Vaping Association has filed its first federal lobbying disclosure in the wake of recent Food and Drug Administration regulations.

In May, the FDA rolled out regulations that would require e-cigarette manufacturers to demonstrate their products' safety and submit to an expensive approval process. The rules are set to go into effect Aug. 8.

The American Vaping Association, founded in 2013, is lobbying on issues related to "vapor products" and the FDA.

While e-cigarette use has risen in popularity in recent years, the number of users in the U.S. has declined by 1.7 million from 2014 to 2015, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
