After court decision, Tribe gets lobbying hand from ex-Rep. James Hayes

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on Oct. 17, 2016

Shortly after a ruling requiring a Native American tribe to pay back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service, former Rep. James Hayes (R-La.) is among the lobbyists advocating on behalf of Florida's 600-member Miccosukee Tribe.

Last month, a judge ordered a Tribe member to pay nearly $280,000 in back taxes from casino profits. The ruling reportedly "means other tribe members could owe back taxes on gambling profits, which average between $120,000 and $160,000 annually for each member," according to NBC Miami.

HBS Resources, where Hayes works as a strategic partner, is also putting former Hill aides Lee Forsgren and Michael Zehr on the case.
