Rep. Carter aide joins group boss supported in bill

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on Oct. 26, 2016

Rep. Buddy Carter's (R-Ga.) legislative director has joined the American Optometric Association, a group that helped to draft legislation Carter introduced last year, according to a trade publication.

Chase Cannon joins the AOA this month as a congressional relations representative. After four years as an aide to Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.), Cannon served as Carter's legislative director when Carter sponsored the Dental and Optometric Care Access Act, which, according to Carter's office, would ban "non-covered services" coverage provisions, allowing practitioners to charge customers higher fees for certain services that aren't covered by insurance, rather than working off an insurer-mandated fee schedule.

Acccording to a trade journal, the AOA "provided input" on the bill, which did not pass Congress.

The AOA has disclosed more than $2.2 million in lobbying expenses so far this year.
