Sen. Blunt hires Family Research Council lobbyist

Posted by Keturah Hetrick on Feb. 13, 2018

After two years with the controversial Family Research Council, a pro-life lobbyist has taken his first job on the Hill.

Andrew Guernsey started yesterday as a legislative assistant to Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.). He handles the senator's abortion and religious-freedom portfolios, both issues that he lobbied on with the FRC. Guernsey joined the FRC after graduating from Johns Hopkins University, where he founded a Voice for Life group.

The FRC advocates for traditional religious views, which include strong opposition to abortion, stem-cell research and same-sex marriage. The advocacy group has attracted the ire of liberal organizations, and the Southern Poverty Law Center even designates the FRC as an anti-gay "hate group."
