Is the gun lobby lightening its grip on Congress?

If lobbying records are to believed, the gun lobby may be lightening its grip on Congress.

The National Rifle Association, by far the gun lobby's biggest force, has seen a significant drop in its lobbying activity. In the last year, the advocacy group decreased its lobbying expenses by about 20 percent, spending $900,000 less than the staggering $4.7 million the NRA and its Institute for Legislative Action advocacy arm spent the year prior.

Meanwhile, two new advocacy groups — the Association of Young Americans and the National School Boards Action Center — have officially joined the legislative push for federal gun control in the last month. That's more than the number of new gun-rights lobbying contracts in the last year.

Both new contracts come weeks after last month's student-led March For Our Lives rally, when hundreds of thousands of protestors took to Washington to advocate for greater gun protection.
