Report Type Reports and Testimonies
Report Date Oct. 20, 1993
Report No. GGD-94-9
Subject
Summary:

Major development projects overseas represent export potential for U.S. exporters because such projects generally use imported capital goods and incorporate a high level of technology. To help promote economic development in and the export of U.S. goods and services to developing and middle-income countries, Congress created the U.S. Trade and Development Agency in 1980. This report reviews (1) how the agency's activities can boost U.S. exports; (2) what factors have affected the agency's efforts to generate U.S. exports; and (3) how five other countries--France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom--approach major development projects abroad that may increase their exports.
