LegiStorm launched a major upgrade to our StormFeed search functionality today. StormFeed, improving our ability to surface press releases and tweets for Congressional, Executive and Judicial offices. StormFeed provides real-time access to every press release and tweet from every office on the Hill and hundreds of executive and judicial branch agencies, as well as tweets from current congressional staff. Starting today, LegiStorm is adding tweets for key executive branch officials to the StormFeed search.
Today's StormFeed upgrade includes the following changes:
- Improvements to the StormFeed search form
- Adding tweets from key executive branch officials, including President Donald Trump
- Improved search of committee and leadership staffer tweets
- Improved search of congressional office tweets
- Improved "All Federal" searching
LegiStorm Pro Premium subscribers have the option to set Lightning Alerts and receive email notifications when new press releases or tweets of interest (by member, office and/or keyword) are added. Note that current Lightning Alerts users may receive a one-time alert email containing past results as we synchronize current alerts with the improved search.
LegiStorm launched two new features today, providing greater insight into the education background of congressional staff and members. The Best Educated Offices list provides an education index that allows the comparison of the average level of formal education attained by congressional staff and members among different offices which vary in staff size and composition.
This education comparison provides certain insights into an office's staffing, hiring and compensation strategy. While the Best Educated Offices index is useful in comparing the average level of formal education attained by staff, this data is not intended to convey any judgment or measurement related to the impact of education on the quality of the staff or the office's ability to carry out its work.
The Salary Rate Analysis by Education page is the latest addition to LegiStorm's Salary Rate Analysis feature, which also includes analysis by member office, position, gender and race. This education analysis includes data on median annual salaries by highest degree attained, median salaries in the best educated offices, and the colleges and universities and schools with the most and the best-paid alumni.
LegiStorm obtains education information for members of Congress and their staff based on a variety of public sources and attempts to verify the accuracy of these records directly with each staffer. The education index is updated daily, indicating real-time changes in the office composition.

LegiStorm has processed and published the latest data on staff salaries and official expenditures for members, committees, leadership and administrative offices of the House of Representatives. This data, which was released by the Clerk of the House last week, covers the period from April 1 to June 30. LegiStorm staff extensively clean and edit salary and expenditure records before making the information available online in our searchable salary database and expenditure reporting tools.
The next release of salaries is expected in late November, including data from both the House (which releases data quarterly) and the Senate (which releases data semi-annually).
Subscribers can view the new design for staff hires, departures and job changes from their Pro Dashboard.
The change is part of a larger scale redesign of the site which is being rolled out gradually by section. In addition to making these pages more accessible on mobile devices, the redesign includes an enhanced travel disclosure search, updates to several graphs analyzing trips and expenditures, and improved browsing of travel by approving member, traveler, sponsoring organization or destination.
