Maryland Office of Administrative Hearings

Acronym: OAH

Information

Organization's Own Description:

In 1990, the Maryland Legislature created the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH). Maryland law, through the Administrative Procedure Act of the State Government Article, provides that contested agency actions may be resolved through an impartial administrative hearing process. Administrative Law Judges (ALJs), highly qualified attorneys trained in a wide variety of areas of administrative law, hear these cases. The OAH, an independent state agency, provides high quality, fair, and efficient hearings. It has also reduced the cost of the hearing process by providing a centralized corps of professional judges and support staff. The OAH's ALJs travel throughout the State of Maryland to provide hearings in the most convenient area possible for all of the State's citizens and businesses.
