Organization's Own Description:
St. Xavier is the Jesuit college preparatory school in Cincinnati, part of a network of 59 Jesuit high schools across the country. Since 1831, we have been educating young men to be Christian leaders and men for others.
The word “education” comes from the Latin ducere, which means “to lead.” Our teachers are passionate about their subject matter--English teachers who love to read and think about what they’ve read, science teachers who are fascinated by the structure of the natural world. They inspire our students to experience the thrill of learning and to take on the same intellectual enthusiasm their teachers have. This happens in the classroom, on the athletic fields and the theater stage. Every dimension of the person is stretched and developed during their four years here. The goal we set for our graduate at graduation is to be open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving and committed to doing justice.
As a Catholic school, we continue the ministry of Jesus the teacher in the 21st century. Religion classes, school Masses and retreat programs give our students the opportunity to learn more about their faith and to develop their relationship with God. Then, we help them to discern their particular vocation in life—that unique way that God is calling them to put their learning and talent to work throughout the rest of their lives in service to their brothers and sisters.
