The Fiber Optic Sensing Association (“FOSA”) is dedicated to accelerating the deployment and use of the advanced optical fiber based sensing technologies for monitoring pipelines, railways, borders, roads, and other critical infrastructure and facilities. Fiber optic sensing uses laser interrogation of fiber optic cable to remotely and instantaneously detect pipeline leaks, vehicle traffic, human traffic, digging activity, seismic activity, unsafe temperatures, loss of structural integrity, and other conditions and activities. On a constant basis, fiber optic sensing accurately pinpoints the location of events from miles away. FOSA membership is open to organizations which manufacture, install, and provide support services related to fiber optic sensing systems and equipment.
The Fiber Optic Sensing Association is affiliated with the not for profit Fiber Broadband Association, which provides education on the benefits of fiber optic networks and seeks to advance the deployment and utilization of fiber optic networks for multiple purposes, including sensing, telecommunications, Internet, and SCADA. The Fiber Broadband Association holds North America's largest annual Fiber Industry event, Fiber Connect.
