Information
Organization's Own Description:
The Hawthorn Foundation was created in 1982 by then-Governor Christopher “Kit” Bond to facilitate Missouri–based business and community leader participation in statewide business recruitment, retention and development efforts. For more than 25 years, this private investment by some of Missouri’s most prominent business leaders has resulted in the creation of innovative marketing programs, significant gains in industry growth and economic development for Missouri.
While retaining our historical mission of supporting trade missions targeting Missouri business recruitment and advising public officials on economic policy, the Foundation also has experienced great success in bringing innovation to Missouri’s economic development strategy. The Hawthorn Foundation has worked in partnership with Missouri governors, the Missouri Department of Economic Development, as well as a myriad of local and regional economic development organizations, to create and support cutting-edge initiatives that are focused on expanding economic opportunities for our state.
In 2007, the Hawthorn Foundation created the Missouri Partnership to serve as the state’s lead business recruitment and marketing organization. Today the Missouri Partnership is widely acknowledged as one of the nation’s premier statewide private sector business recruitment organizations.
The foundation is organized as a private 501(c)(6) organization. It is managed by an independent, non-partisan board of approximately 30 director–investors who represent many of Missouri’s leading businesses, communities and economic development organizations.
