Organization's Own Description:
Parents as Teachers of Lake County, Inc. is a free early learning and family support organization helping children ages birth to five years old achieve school readiness and optimal social, emotional, and cognitive development. Incorporated in 2000, PATLC has rapidly grown to serving families of over 400 children across Lake County. With the national Parents as Teachers program model as our foundation, PATLC implements the following projects:
Parents as Teachers (PAT): Delivery of four service components outlined above, serving a projected 184 families in Lake County for the current program year.
Early Head Start (EHS): A federally-funded program to promote economic and social well-being of families with children prenatal through age 3, using the PAT curriculum. Serving 60 families.
Empowering Teens as Parents (ETAP): Providing support and services at school and at home to pregnant and parenting teens, with capacity to serve 105 teens in Lake County.
School Readiness: Kindergarten preparation workshops for 4- and 5-year-olds, coordinated with developmental and vision screenings in cooperation with local school systems.
NWI Regional Initiative: Mentoring, training, and professional development for schools, agencies, and other organizations in Northwest Indiana delivering early childhood and parent support services. We currently provide these organizational services to programs serving a total of 1,300 children in Northwest Indiana.
