Information
Organization's Own Description:
The San Francisquito Creek Joint Powers Authority (SFCJPA) is a government agency formed in 1999 by the cities of Palo Alto, Menlo Park and East Palo Alto, and the Santa Clara Valley Water District and San Mateo County Flood Control District.
Elected leaders from these five member agencies comprise the SFCJPA Board of Directors. Reporting to the Board is an executive director and the agency’s two professional staff that work out of a brick house located within the watershed.
The approximately 30,000-acre watershed of San Francisquito Creek lies in the heart of Silicon Valley on the San Francisco Peninsula. In keeping with the SFCJPA’s multi-jurisdictional approach to solving problems, the agency implements projects that provide multiple communities flood protection, environmental and recreational benefits, and it coordinates Creek maintenance and emergency preparedness and response communication. To implement these solutions, the SFCJPA draws upon funding contributions and staff expertise from its member agencies, as well as the expertise of local residents.
