The Subcommittee on Surface Transportation, Maritime, Freight, and Ports has legislative and oversight jurisdiction over surface transportation and maritime policy. In addition to the committee's broad oversight of the Office of the Secretary of Transportation, the subcommittee has oversight over the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), Amtrak, the Surface Transportation Board, the Transportation Security Administration (surface transportation security), the National Transportation Safety Board (surface transportation issues), the Maritime Administration (MARAD), the Federal Maritime Commission, and the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.
